Since its establishment in 2008, the Egyptian E-Learning University (EELU) has been a pioneer in education and training in Egypt. The first university in Egypt to adopt an e-learning concept, the institution is dedicated to supplying the labor market with highly skilled individuals through its bachelor’s and master’s-level degrees and industry-recognized certifications.
Now in its seventeenth year of operations, the EELU College of Computing and Information Technology serves more than 7,000 students. The college teaches and empowers students with the computing and information technology skills and knowledge they need to secure jobs after graduation, and to keep pace with rapidly advancing technology.
Preparing students for their future through certification
EELU’s founders were highly focused on preparing students for a career in information technology. In their initial planning, they established a set of key goals for program success and the success of future graduates:
- Learners will graduate well prepared for the job market.
- The College will standardize the level of knowledge and skills across the student body.
- The College will establish a competency benchmark, to ensure students meet industry standards.
- Learners will graduate with confidence in their abilities to meet the demands of the workforce.
Leadership sought a way to accomplish these goals and decided to implement industry-recognized credentials through JVIDÊÓƵ, a Pearson VUE Business, as part of its summer training program. Professor Hisham Mohamed Abdelsalam, President the Egyptian E-Learning University, said, “Our role at the university is to do our best to develop technological infrastructure and educational systems in cooperation with leading international companies specialized in these fields. Our team believes in the importance of developing the capabilities of our learners, and we are determined to graduate generations of professionals that are able to compete locally, regionally, and globally.”
Summer training is one of the graduation requirements for the College of Computing and Information Technology at EELU. It offers hands-on training on the technology trends for IT learners. JVIDÊÓƵ’s IT Specialist certifications fit the needs of the summer training program and were implemented as a requirement for all students in the program.
Kamal S. Hamza, Director of the Information Technology Program said, “These certifications were chosen by the committee of summer training because they align well with our curriculum and the career aspirations of IT students, providing them with industry-recognized credentials that enhance their employability and professional development.”
In addition to the IT Specialist certifications’ market relevance, enhanced learning outcomes, and global recognition, EELU also found that these certifications serve as a motivation for students to engage more deeply in their studies and strive for excellence.
“The benefits align with our University and College mission to provide a high-quality education and to ensure that our students are well-prepared for their future IT careers,” said Professor Hisham Abdelsalam.
Students succeed with the IT Specialist certification
Over 1,300 students earned an IT Specialist certification through the College of Computing Technology’s summer training program during the 2023-2024 term alone. The College asks for faculty feedback, tracks student success, reviews the community impact, and incorporates all these data to improve the certification program for future learners.
Prof. Hisham Ahmad Hassan, Dean of the College, commented, “Overall, the addition of certification to our summer training has been a significant step forward in achieving our mission to provide high-quality education and support our learners’ career aspirations. Our summer training program committee hopes to introduce additional IT certifications opportunities to the increasing number of students participating in this program.”
With thousands of candidates certifying each term, the Egyptian E-Learning University is successfully preparing students for the workforce. Osama Ahmed, a student at EELU said, “My IT Specialist Device Configuration and Management certification has given me invaluable knowledge and hands-on experience in managing and configuring devices, equipping me with the skills necessary to thrive in today's tech-driven world.”
Zinab Hassan, also a student at EELU echoed similar sentiments, commenting, “This certification has deepened my knowledge of modern IT practices, enabling me to streamline device setups, improve system security, and improve overall device management. I look forward to applying these new skills and continuing to grow in the ever-evolving field of technology.”
